Ruby Brookshire

Ruby Lea Brookshire, age 86, went to be with her Lord on December 30, 2023. She passed peacefully while listening to Elvis sing gospel hymns on her and Jimmie’s 70th wedding anniversary. She is preceded in death by her husband Jimmie, and sons Danny, Randy, and Darris Brookshire.

She worked at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center as a nurse for 30 years.  After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved cat Sally, and her family.  She especially enjoyed her only grandson Matthew and insisted he call her Grandmother. She enjoyed the simple things such as football, game shows, QVC, and her weekly visits to her hairdressers. A gentle person, she always said please and thank you and expressed appreciation for those who cared for her.

She is survived by daughter Connie Brookshire (Devin Wells), Grandson Matthew Brookshire Wells, and daughter-in-law Jaynie Brookshire. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Garfield (Patsy) McCarter, Everett (Jeanette) McCarter, Alvin (Edna) McCarter, and Charles (Delores) McCarter, and Linda Cook.

A brief memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on February 8, 2024, at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN, 37920.
