Preceded in death by her husband of 21 years, Robert N. Newsome, foster parents Harry Lee and Bura Gladys Hedrick, biological mom Pearl Greer, brothers  Joe, Jerry, Floyd, Sonny, and one sister Lois. Survived by her sister Azalee (Danny) Burris, Springfield, MO. Lucille was a strong woman, holding fast to her belief in God, and always seeking to better herself. She worked hard to keep her family together after the death of her husband. For a short while, she was a textile factory worker and returned to school to pursue an education in nursing, from which she graduated in 1976. She continued her nursing career to the age of 79 until a heart attack forced her retirement in 2014. She moved to Knoxville, TN, so she could be near her daughter Cathy and her son-in-law. She enjoyed spending time with her cat, Baby, family, and friends; she also enjoyed crocheting of which she made many blankets.

A memorial service will be held at the Antioch Baptist Church, 5709 North Broadway, Knoxville, TN. There will be a small gathering of friends and family at the graveside of Independence United Methodist Church Cemetery, Emporia, VA, later in the spring of 2024.
