Jerry Leon Arp, Senior was born in a house on Berry Street in Knoxville in 1943 to parents Warren Gamelial Arp and Ruth Beatrice Hinchey. He was the first of three children. He was followed by brother David and sister Linda.
After graduating from High School, jobs were hard to find so he enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed in California(Vandenberg AFB), followed by Minot, North Dakota and finally Omaha, Nebraska during his time in the service. After more than 20 years, he retired as a Master Sergeant and settled in Seymour where he lived until his death. He will be buried at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on East Governor John Sevier Highway in Knoxville.
Jerry was a creative man and a lover of art and flowers. Although hampered by being left-handed, he mastered the art of crochet and made an amazing tablecloth and a variety of snowflakes at the behest of his daughter Patricia. His love of flowers is well known. He especially loved Christmas cactus, iris, peonies, roses, orchids and daylilies. He wanted a fence in front of his home covered in climbing roses.
Jerry was also a devout Christian and attended church at Valley Grove Baptist Church in Knoxville.
He is survived by his three children Debi Lee of California, Jerry Arp of Maryland and Patricia Arp of Massachusetts, his brother David, of Michigan and his nephews Thomas Harmon of Knoxville and Keith David Arp of Michigan.
The family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Sevier County Humane Society, 959 Gnatty Branch Road, Sevierville, TN 37876.
