Gregory L. Delaney passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, surrounded by family at the University of Tennessee Medical Center on the morning of April 16th, 2024. He was born on March 18, 1951 in Springfield, Illinois to Carol Bartlett Delaney and Lawrence F. Delaney. While attending Purdue University, Greg became a loyal and devoted brother of the Beta Phi Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Upon graduating in 1973 he briefly worked for the Illinois EPA as an environmental engineer, then set sail on an epic adventure through the Virgin Islands before moving to Atlanta in 1978 where he enjoyed a long and successful career in civil engineering.  After briefly working with W.L. Jorden, he joined Eberly & Associates in 1988 and soon after became a Principal then Vice President. Through Greg’s diligence and commitment to engineering excellence he helped grow the firm into one of the largest Civil Engineering, Land Planning and Landscape Architecture firms in the Southeast. His most noted projects are the redesign of NASCAR Race Tracks in Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Bristol and Las Vegas Motor Speedways. Greg was licensed in 14 states and Puerto Rico. Greg retired from Eberly & Associates in December 2017.

Reflective of Greg’s quiet nature, he loved the outdoors, bird watching and fishing. In addition to his membership at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Copper Hill, TN, he maintained active in Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Purdue Alumni Association, The Nature Conservancy, Trout Unlimited and the National Audubon Society. His many interests also included Japanese Bonsai, Blues and Jazz vinyls, guitar playing and traveling.

There was nothing more important to Greg than his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years Jane McGowan, his twin children Ellen Delaney and John Delaney (Megan), grandson Arlo, brothers Steve Delaney, Tom Delaney and sister Colleen Carr.  He is preceded in death by his parents.
